Your initial Breast Augmentation Consultation

Your Journey should begin with an in depth consultation with Dr. Weinberg. He believes cosmetic surgery is a collaborative process, and the consultation allows him to get a complete understanding of your goals and concerns so that all the important surgical decisions can be made in partnership with you .You will have ample  opportunity  to ask  questions and get a full picture of what your surgery entails. As all the best surgeons and  manufacturers will tell you, everyone’s body is different. Even the smallest differences are important when it comes to selecting the right kind of breast implant. Before Dr. Weinberg  recommends an implant, he will measure your breasts and chest width and evaluate your skin and tissue characteristics to help guide his surgical decisions. Important factors to consider in planning breast augmentation surgery include:

  • The symmetry of your breasts
  • The width of your chest and of your breast tissue
  • Your skin type
  • The location of the incision and the implant
  • Your goals and desires for surgery

Careful preoperative planning is important because a breast implant that is too large for your tissue can result in excessive stretching of the skin and contribute to the need for future corrective surgeries. In addition, the implant  may be palpable or visible under the skin. Excessively large breast implants may speed up the effects of gravity and result in earlier droop or sag. Once the breast tissue is damaged like this, surgery may not be able to reverse these changes. These are some of the reasons why it is important your surgery be undertaken by an appropriately qualified and experienced breast surgeon such as Dr. Weinberg.

During the consultation process, and again prior to surgery, both the benefits and the risks of the surgery will be explained in detail. There are both general surgical risks, and those specific to breast augmentation, and while it is rare for these to be serious, they will be  reviewed  with you in a straight forward and honest fashion, as should be the case with any reputable surgeon who’s opinion you seek.
